Tanning Beds

 Tanning Beds

It is estimated that 25% of the people in the United States have tanned indoors at least once in their lives.  Of them, 8% of the people do it on a regular basis.  The average age of the people who are more likely to tan is 25-44 years of age, and most being female.  A survey of 200 women was conducted and the results claim that 80% of the women, who tan indoors regularly, did it for the change in color of skin tone.  Another 15% said they use a tanning bed for the 15-20 minutes of relaxation and silence, and the rest claim that they use it for therapeutic reasons for skin disorders.  With all these facts, there is no wonder why home tanning beds are becoming a part of our lives.

There are many benefits to indoor tanning:

  • Home tanning beds are so much more convenient and private.  Obviously, a person can utilize it any time of day or night at his or her own discretion.

  • There is evidence that tanning indoors decreases the risk of over exposure to UV rays from the sun.

  • Some Doctors even suggest that during the winter months, that indoor tanning is a safe and drug free way to fight the seasonal depression disorder.

  • Physicians often use non-cosmetic Ultraviolet lamps to help treat Psoriasis and other skin disorders.  If used wisely, this can be very beneficial to that cause, as well.

There are two types of home tanning bed available for purchase.  The horizontal tanning bed is the most common.  They usually have anywhere from 28-32 tanning lamps.  The time required in each session is anywhere from 7 minutes to no longer than 20 minutes per session.  The price range is around $5,000.

The other option is the vertical standing tanning bed.  It contains 48 tanning lamps and has no contact with the skin, whatsoever, as opposed to the horizontal tanning bed. The session time is 12 minutes maximum per session.  This is a relatively new type of home tanning bed, so it will run a bit more expensive with the average price being around $7,000.  With the vertical position, this will save space compared to the horizontal model.

The average 10-session package nation wide will cost $45.00.  If an individual regularly visit a tanning bed year round, then they are looking at spending around $1150 per year.  For a little more money, and allot less hassle, a person could own their own tanning beds and have the convenience and privacy of a home tanning bed.
